Awareness

September is PCOS Awareness month and I will be rocking the teal. This may not apply to everyone, but I feel as women we should be educated. I am the 1! I am the 1 out of 10 women who live with the pain, embarrasment and self-image issues that this disease causes. It’s almost too painful to even talk about and luckily my close friends and family are accepting and understanding. “Hirsutism” means excess hair. In my case my body produces more testosterone than estrogen. Ugh.. I promise I don’t have an Adam’s apple or talk like a man. Sometimes though I feel like I have to shave, pluck or wax more than Ben. Bless his soul he’ll come in the bathroom and I’ll be going crazy with the tweezers and he just sits there and carries on a conversation like its the most normal thing in the world. For me it is normal, it is the only thing I have ever known. It is also the most embarrassing, saddest, most self-conscious thing when you can grow a beard faster than your husband. There are creams, hair removal specialist and many more options out there, but unless your crazy rich and can be consistent their is no permanent cure. It’ll keep coming 😞. Most people would skip this part, but I feel like it is not talked about enough. Body shaming, bullying, all the negativity in this world only causes us to feel more inferior than what we already do. Ladies, embrace who you are. Accept the things you cannot change. Understand that your body is working against you. Do know that you are beautiful. I had someone years ago who battles the same issue tell me that she would never find love because she was disgustingly hairy. Those were her exact words. Honey let me tell you… You will find love, you will be loved and you are loved. If we all looked the same there would be no variety in this world. Its okay not to be the world’s definition of “normal”, but you sure can rock out your version and know that you are not alone. #1OutOf10 #PCOSAwareness

Born and raised in small town USA Lexington, North Carolina more famously known for our BBQ, where our tea is sweet and our accents are sweeter (Oh yeah and you get that good ice, you know the hospital kind) at all our restaurants. If I was a travel agent I would be sure to disclose that, cause that is a selling point to me for sure. Except now, I am on a permanent vacation living at the coast, married to my wonderful husband (Ben) with three handsome boys (Kaleb, Joshua & Chase), a dog (Baloo) and as of yesterday a new fish (Pete). This journey I am on started out as trying to lose weight and ended up with me finding myself. So if you're ready to laugh, cry with me and probably shake your head at my grammar and punctuation you are more than welcome to join in on my shenanigans. All Aboard!
